Police Raid House Church in Jiangxi Province

(Lichuan, Jiangxi—July 8, 2012) Police in Jiangxi province raided a house church in Lichuan county last month, detaining three church workers and confiscating church property, ChinaAid has learned.

The raid on the Houcun village house church occurred at 11 a.m. on June 5. Police said it was an illegal meeting and confiscated the church’s Sunday school books, computers and projectors. Three church workers were detained, but were released at 2 p.m. The confiscated items have not been returned, however, and the police say they will only be turned over to the church’s “responsible person.”

The phone number for the head of the Houcun village police station, surnamed Wang, is 13879458288.

ChinaAid calls on the local police station to immediately return the church’s confiscated goods and to protect the citizens’ right to freedom of religion.
